I went to BDO today to withdraw cash and to inquire about opening a checking account.
Unfortunately, I didn’t qualify or I wasn’t eligible to open a checking account because I did not meet one of the requirements which is to have an average daily balance (ADB) of P50,000 in my BDO savings account for the past 6 months.
I only managed to keep P10,000 on my BDO account in several months, which is also the maintaining balance for my Passbook+ATM account.
The bank officer handed me a piece of paper and she encouraged me to open a BDO Nomura Online Trading Account instead.
What is a BDO Nomura Account
I quickly searched online about BDO Nomura when I got home and I found out that BDO Nomura Securities, Inc. is formerly the PCIB Securities, Inc. This is a joint venture between BDO Unibank, Inc. and Nomura Holdings of Japan to provide online trading services to BDO’s significant client base and branch network. (Source)
BDO Nomura Online Trading is similar to COL Financial and BPI Trade, but of course, they are competitors.
These online trading platforms (online brokers) facilitate the buying and selling of stocks through the internet. This is much better and simpler compared to the traditional way of buying and selling stocks through an individual broker wherein you have to give orders through a telephone call.
Online brokers also allow small investors to invest in the stock market even with a small amount of money.
With COL Financial, you can start investing in the stock market for as low as P5,000. With BPI, there’s no minimum as long as you have a BPI account (with funds) linked to your BPI Trade account. With BDO Nomura, there’s also no minimum investment. You can buy stocks as long as you have enough funds in your BDO Savings Account.
