Upon hearing the news that BPI account holders or clients were advised to update their info by August 31,
I immediately checked BPI’s website and FB page for their official advisory to make sure that it was a legit announcement.
And yes, it was!
I almost panicked because it was a day before the deadline and I didn’t want to lose my access to BPI ATM, online and mobile banking facilities.
Good thing was, BPI (Bank of the Philippine Islands) extended the deadline to September 30. (Source)
I also called the BPI hotline 89-100 just to clarify this issue and the representative told me the same thing.
BPI apologized after getting negative reactions from BPI account holders, which became viral on social media.
BPI also clarified that their recent announcements only apply to a limited number of individuals, with whom they have already communicated separately.
In fact, only 5% of BPI account holders need to update their info.
And I guess I am one of them!
I checked my mailbox and found this mail from BPI dated June 18, 2016.
In this letter, I was advised to fill out the Customer Information Sheet.
This is in compliance with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Circular 706, which requires cardholders to provide select information to their card issuers.
No deadline was stated in the letter though.
Regardless of the warning announcements made by BPI, account holders of any financial institutions are required to update their account info regularly.
I will visit the nearest BPI branch one of these days to update my info and I’ll let you know how it goes.
How to Update your Account Information with BPI:
- Secure a copy of the Customer Information Sheet (CIS) and Foreign Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) Form by visiting any BPI branch or by downloading the forms online.

- Present the original copy and submit a photocopy of 1 valid, recent, and photo-bearing ID.
- Submit these documents to any branch nearest you. (Not necessarily in your branch of account).
